CA-based commercial space company Helicity Space secures $5M in seed funding. TRE Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Voyager Space Holdings, E2MC Space, Urania Ventures, and Gaingels were among the backers.

The funding will be utilised by the business to develop its exclusive technology. Helicity Space is a space exploration company that was co-founded by Stephane Lintner, Marta Calvo, a former chemical engineering employee of Aerojet Rocketdyne, and Setthivoine You, a former professor of plasma physics at the Universities of Tokyo and Washington. Fusion propulsion is the company’s area of expertise.

The business uses peristaltic magnetic compression to boost energy density, plectonemic plasma jets for confinement, and magnetic reconnection for heating.

A group of highly regarded specialists in their fields, including Dr. Alan Stern, the former head of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and NASA Associate Administrator of the Office of Space Flight, Dr. Simon “Pete” Worden, the former director of NASA Ames Research Centre, and former NASA astronaut William Readdy, provide additional support to Helicity Space.
