Overland AI Raises $100M in Funding

Overland AI, a Seattle, WA-based company that specialises in autonomous ground systems for defence and national security, has raised $100 million in a funding round led by 8VC.

The round also saw participation from Point72 Ventures, Ascend Venture Capital, Shasta Ventures, Overmatch Ventures, Valour Equity Partners and StepStone Group, alongside other institutional investors.

The funding round included a $20 million venture debt facility from TriplePoint Capital.

The company plans to use the funds to support growing demand for ULTRA, its autonomous ground vehicle, as militaries increase the use of ground autonomy in their operations.

The funding will help Overland AI meet growing demand for ULTRA, its autonomous ground vehicle, as militaries expand the use of ground autonomy. The company is working with several U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and SOCOM units and has partnered with CAL FIRE to support wildfire response. Its technology is designed to operate reliably in complex off-road and GPS-denied environments.

Overland AI’s ULTRA uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) help deliver critical supplies to frontline locations after large airborne operations with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

“Demand for ground autonomy has quickly shifted from testing to real operational use,” said Stephanie Bonk, co-founder and president of Overland AI. “This funding helps us grow with the units using our technology. We work directly with warfighters and use their feedback to improve our systems and build trust for real-world missions.”

Overland has developed some of the world’s most advanced ground autonomy, leading in competitions and field tests. This funding will help deploy ULTRA more quickly,” said Joe Lonsdale, managing partner at 8VC. “Today’s Pentagon focuses on working with the most capable teams. Leaders like Byron, Stephanie, and their team are helping drive defence innovation and strengthen national security. We’re proud to support strong ideas and skilled teams.”

A Textron Ripsaw M5 equipped with Overland AI’s OverDrive autonomy system was recently demonstrated at a MARS (Machine Assisted Rugged Soldier) event with the 36th Engineer Brigade and DARPA.

Breaching missions are some of the most difficult and dangerous tasks in ground combat. Autonomous technology can help keep combat engineers out of the most hazardous areas, such as minefields, wires, or barriers. Overland AI worked with soldiers from the 36th Engineer Brigade, 20th Engineer Battalion, and 59th Combat Engineer Company to use autonomous and manned vehicles together during obstacle-clearing operations. This approach improved Army capabilities and helped reduce risk to soldiers.

“Our success this past year comes from delivering ground autonomy that truly works for warfighters,” said Byron Boots, co-founder and CEO of Overland AI. “We focused first on the hardest challenge—building core autonomy for each vehicle. This foundation is essential for everything else, including coordinated autonomy across multiple vehicles.”

About Overland AI

Founded in 2022 and based in Seattle, Overland AI builds autonomous land systems for the U.S. and its allies. The company focuses on off-road autonomy to keep warfighters out of danger. Its team of self-driving engineers and military veterans tests and improves systems in real-world conditions.

Overland’s technology allows warfighters to operate multiple vehicles with modular payloads in minutes, even in GPS-denied environments. By managing the full stack—from software to sensors, control systems and manufacturing—Overland delivers autonomous capabilities quickly and at scale. In 2025, the company completed the DARPA RACER program. It expanded its missions to include counter-UAS, ISR, logistics, and breaching, demonstrating both the versatility of its platforms and the benefits of close collaboration with warfighters.
