NuCube Energy Raises $13M in Funding

NuCube Energy, an Idaho Falls, Idaho-based provider of a high-temperature modular microreactor, has raised $13 million in a funding series led by Arizona Nuclear Ventures.

The round also saw participation from Emission Reduction Corporation (ERC), Rob Walton, and Jordan Rose Walton.

The company plans to use the funds to continue testing materials, finalize its design and progress with regulatory approvals.

The company’s design focuses on simplicity, built-in safety, and efficient supply chains, aiming to support scalable use in industrial sites, remote locations, and growing data infrastructure.

NuCube Energy, co-founded in 2023 at Idealab Studio by entrepreneur Bill Gross and nuclear engineer Dr. Cristian Rabiti, is developing a high-temperature modular microreactor that can generate electricity and provide industrial heat up to 1,100 degrees Celsius.

Rob Walton expressed confidence in the company’s future. He said, “Reliable, affordable energy is key to economic growth. Technologies that provide dependable power at scale will become more important, and NuCube is taking an approach we believe deserves support.”

Dr. Cristian Rabiti, CEO of NuCube Energy, said that over the past year, the team designed technical tests to produce data needed for regulatory approval.

Efforts to strengthen energy infrastructure statewide are underway in Greater Phoenix, where innovation and economic development plans are closely linked.

Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said Arizona’s growth in advanced industries is increasing the need for reliable power. She added that they are excited to support NuCube’s expanding operations and next-generation energy technologies that enhance grid resilience and long-term competitiveness.

John Schreiber, General Partner of Arizona Nuclear Ventures, an investor in Idealab Arizona, and a board member of NuCube Energy, said that, with Arizona Nuclear Ventures leading the funding round, NuCube gains more than just capital. He added that Arizona has become a fast-growing hub for advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, and large-scale data infrastructure. The need for reliable, scalable energy is growing quickly, and NuCube’s high-temperature microreactor is well-suited to meet that demand.

Bill Gross, Co-founder of NuCube Energy, said the next generation of nuclear power must be simpler to scale. With global electricity demand rising due to AI, electrification, and industrial reshoring, advanced nuclear will be key to supporting economic growth. He explained that NuCube is reinventing reactor technology with a safer, simpler design that is licensable and can provide high-temperature heat and reliable power for modern industry. NuCube’s no-moving-parts design is revolutionary and, unlike many microreactors focused on remote electricity, is built to supply industrial heat and compete on the broader grid. He added that he is excited about the benefits the new funding will bring.

About NuCube

Founded in 2023 by Bill Gross and Dr. Cristian Rabiti, NuCube is an energy technology company developing a revolutionary nuclear fission reactor that generates electricity through high temperature heat. The technology is unique in serving both the electrical power market and high-temperature industrial heat applications. NuCube’s modular microreactor is designed to be safe, simple, and cost-effective, producing heat up to 1,100 degrees Celsius for industrial processes. It aims to replace natural gas in energy-intensive industries while also providing competitive electricity for remote and distributed locations.
