Highlight AI, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of an intelligent operating system for teams and AI agents, has raised $40 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures.
The round also saw participation from 359 Capital, General Catalyst, Valor Equity, Common Metal, Makers Fund, Collaborative Fund, Arcadia, and SV Angel.
The company will use the funds to grow its operations and further develop its products.
Sergei Sorokin, former VP of Product at Discord, has joined the company as CEO to lead its mission of creating the collective intelligence layer for the agentic age.
Highlight AI is an intelligent operating system for teams and AI agents that helps reduce the “coordination tax”—the time and effort teams spend staying aligned —by up to 24 hours per employee each week. Sergei Sorokin brings over 15 years of experience building and growing global consumer products, including eight years at Discord, where he led product development, worked on AI features, grew the platform from 5 million to nearly 300 million monthly users, and built its revenue business from scratch.

After leaving Discord, he spent two years building and advising AI startups like Weights, Aura, and OffCall, seeing how disconnected tools and workflows often fail to boost productivity. This experience gives Sorokin the insight to lead Highlight at a key time, as it creates a shared intelligence layer that unifies work, keeps context and lets teams focus on what matters most.
We’ve entered the agentic age of work, where humans, and AI work together at scale, yet most companies haven’t seen a significant boost in productivity. About 80% of companies use generative AI yet many report little impact on results. Employees often juggle up to eight apps a day, dealing with countless messages, documents, tickets, and drafts, turning work into constant coordination rather than focused, creative effort.
Highlight solves this by capturing, modeling, and retrieving team context in real time. Its platform combines user controlled capture, a unified team memory, and a proactive command center to understand activity across tools, and teams, acting with context rather than rigid rules or one-off prompts.
For example, a product team finishing a design review in Figma and discussing follow-ups in Slack can rely on Highlight to automatically record decisions, track changes, assign owners, draft follow-ups with links, create tasks in Linear and update the product spec. Team members can review and send updates with one click. An engineer who missed the meeting can instantly see all decisions and next steps, then review a pull request created by an AI agent implementing the feature.
This approach eliminates hours of team coordination, and the time savings grow even more when scaled across an organization. Highlight captures the full arc of work as it happens, keeping critical context through role changes, team growth, and time, giving employees clarity without searching. It turns everyday work into a shared organizational memory that lasts beyond any single employee.
Using proactive AI changes how people and teams work together, combining challenges from both enterprise and consumer products. To tackle this, Highlight is expanding its team with experienced product builders, including leaders from Discord, Medal.tv, and Meta, who know how to create intuitive, collaborative tools at scale.
“AI isn’t held back by intelligence or capability anymore—it’s stuck on coordination,” said Sergei Sorokin, CEO of Highlight AI. “Without a shared memory across tools, people waste hours copying, pasting and tracking work by hand. The Highlight is building a collective intelligence layer for the agentic age, unifying memory, and coordination so work can move forward automatically rather than being pieced together. I’m joining Highlight at a key moment, helping build foundational infrastructure from scratch for agent-driven work, not just improving old systems.”
Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, added, “Software and AI have outpaced the systems that manage them. This gap exists in every industry. As work becomes more agent-driven, we need an operating system that keeps humans and machines aligned.”
About Highlight AI
Founded in 2024 by Sergei Sorokin and Samantha Pelletier, Highlight is a shared intelligence platform for the next era of work. Unlike traditional AI, which works in isolated silos, Highlight creates a team “brain” that captures context from every employee and tool. Working on top of apps like Slack, Zoom, Linear, and Claude Code removes the manual work of sharing information. Highlight helps teams move from manual prompts to proactive support, automatically drafting follow-ups, updating documents, and coordinating tasks across platforms before they’re even requested.
