Google Warns – Key Alerts, Updates and Safety Notifications

Google has warned SEO experts not to rely on automated “health scores” from well-known SEO audit tools, stressing that context, not numbers, determines a Site’s technical health.

Google Search Relations specialist Martin Splitt revealed in a recent Search Central Lightning Talk that automated analytics frequently trick teams into pursuing arbitrary enhancements rather than resolving actual crawling and indexing obstacles.

He recommended that “no technical issues prevent or interfere with crawling or indexing” be the goal of a technical SEO audit.

The three phases of a successful technical audit

  • Identification: Use tools and guidelines to identify potential problems.
  • Customization: produce a report that is specific to the aims, platform, and structure of the website.
  • Recommendation: It is advisable to offer practical insights grounded in actual demands and strategic priorities.

This method goes beyond automated reports that produce general scores without comprehending the true technical background of a website.

The issue with automatic scoring

Although they are not perfect, audit tools can be helpful. They might report out-of-date products or innocuous 404 pages as serious problems while ignoring underlying technical issues that actually impair performance.

When teams rely solely on numerical audit scores, they often waste time and resources on minor fixes while missing deeper SEO problems. That’s why human expertise is so important—it helps identify what truly matters.

Understanding the technical context first

Before using any tools or checklists, it’s important to understand the website’s technology and structure. A news portal, a global e-commerce Site, and an institutional website each require different strategies. Every metric should always be analyzed based on:

  • Site size and depth;
  • Publishing frequency;
  • Use of caching or CDNs;
  • Expected Googlebot behaviour in dynamic contexts.

Tool-based audits may produce false conclusions and inadequate prioritization in the absence of this context.

From automatic reports to actual effects

Strategic decisions must be guided by a genuine SEO audit, not merely technical alarms. This concept guides our approach to technical SEO and digital strategy consulting at Bydas. Beyond the numbers, we concentrate on data interpretation and practical suggestions that improve performance and visibility.

The importance of human expertise

Google’s message highlights how important strategic planning and expert guidance really are. Tools can give you the numbers, but only human judgment can turn those numbers into meaningful insights and real results.

Technology and automation go a long way, but true expertise is what transforms an audit into a real opportunity for growth.

Conclusion

Although automated audit ratings appear impartial, they seldom provide a complete picture. When analytics are interpreted in context and translated into astute, purposeful action, real SEO progress occurs. Google tells us that the objective is to ensure your website is technically sound and ready to perform in search results, not to pursue a perfect score.
