Citra Space Corp Raises $15M in Series A Funding

Apr 14, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Citra Space Corp, a Colorado Springs, CO-based space technology company developing space object identification capabilities, has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Washington Harbour Partners.

The round also saw participation from Industrious Ventures, Reliable Properties, and existing investors, including Scout VC, Squadra Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and Flex Capital.

The company plans to use the funds to develop and roll out its technology with commercial and government partners.

Citra is developing technology to improve how object identity is created and maintained. The team has hands-on experience in mission-critical environments where identity is often unclear, and decisions must be made with limited information.

The company combines data from multiple sources to create lasting “fingerprints” of objects over time. By consolidating different types of observations into a single system, Citra provides operators with a clearer, more reliable way to identify and understand orbital activity. Based in Colorado Springs, the company is building this technology for both government and commercial space users.

There are more than 35,000 objects orbiting Earth for civil and national security uses. While tracking has improved, about 10,000 objects remain unclearly identified. Even for known objects, understanding their purpose, behavior, and potential risk remains a major challenge. Solving these gaps requires data from both space and ground systems, and Citra’s technology is designed to address this problem.

“Operators can now see more objects in orbit than ever, but understanding what they are and what they’re doing is still a big challenge,” said Tom “Pumper” Nichols, CEO and co-founder of Citra. “The key issue is understanding their capabilities, behavior, and intent. The U.S. Space Force has built a strong base for space awareness, and this funding will help us deliver tools that make better use of that data.”

“Understanding object behavior is one of the least developed areas of space awareness,” said Mina Faltas, Founder and CIO at Washington Harbour Partners. “We’re proud to invest in Citra’s data-driven approach to a problem with real operational impact. By helping operators understand what objects are, how they behave and why, Citra provides critical insights for space missions.”
