CVRD Health Raises $5M in Seed Funding Led by Upfront Ventures

CVRD Health, a Miami, FL-based provider of a technology platform helping federal contractors manage health and welfare benefits, has raised $5 million in a seed funding round led by Upfront Ventures.
The round also saw participation from Waterline Ventures and Distributed Ventures.
The company plans to use the funds to accelerate platform development, grow its compliance and member advocacy teams, and expand its solution nationwide for federal contractors.
CVRD’s platform provides contractors with real-time insight into their benefit obligations, spending, and reimbursement status, helping ensure that no fringe benefit funds are lost. The platform also manages benefits through an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA), which gives employees tax-free funds to choose the health coverage that best fits their needs.

In addition, every employee receives support from a dedicated member advocate who can help them choose a plan, answer coverage questions, and provide ongoing assistance.
Traditional health plans often cost more than the fringe allowance, forcing contractors to cover the extra expense from their own profits. At the same time, employees are usually limited to fixed health plans that may not meet their individual needs. Compliance requirements also create a heavy administrative burden for smaller contractors, reducing competition and increasing costs for the federal government.
Most of the tools contractors use today were originally built for commercial businesses and only later adapted for government contracting. While many solutions help contractors win contracts, very few help them manage costs and profitability after the work begins.
Contractors using CVRD can recover 100% of their benefits spending, remain compliant with federal and prevailing wage laws, and give employees more healthcare choices. CVRD works with federal contractors across the U.S., including Aptive Resources, which saved more than $500,000 in its first year after switching to the platform. The company reduced average premiums by 52% and lowered monthly employer contributions by 30%, while employees received health plans better suited to their location and family needs.

"The government contracting market is one of the largest and most underserved sectors in the U.S. economy when it comes to purpose-built technology," said Kevin Zhang, General Partner at Upfront Ventures. "CVRD has identified a structural problem affecting millions of workers and thousands of businesses — and built the only solution designed specifically to solve it."
"Winning a government contract is only half the battle," said Alexa Baggio, Co-Founder and CEO of CVRD Health. "The industry has almost no infrastructure dedicated to helping contractors actually execute that work profitably. Meanwhile, the workers doing that work have fringe dollars that are legally theirs — and right now, too much of that money gets eaten up by an inefficient system instead of going to the people who earned it."
