The Path, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of an AI therapy platform designed for creating long-term mental wellness, has raised $14.3 million in a Seed funding round led by Prime Movers Lab.
The round also saw participation from Apolo Anton Ohno, Deontay Wilder, Designer Fund and others.
The company plans to use the funds to grow its team, expand the platform, and support ongoing clinical research initiatives.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than one billion people around the world live with a mental health condition, but many do not receive proper care. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) says that in the U.S., it often takes more than 10 years for people to receive treatment after symptoms first appear.

Current solutions are often unable to meet the personal and sensitive needs of people facing mental health challenges. At the same time, the shortage of mental-health professionals is expected to grow, increasing the need for more accessible care options.
The Path uses a different approach to AI mental health support. Its platform is built on AI models created specifically for therapy, and coaching. Guided by clinical expertise, these models focus on helping users solve problems effectively rather than simply increasing engagement. Instead of reinforcing unhealthy thinking patterns, The Path acts like a supportive guide, using therapy, and coaching methods that adapt to each users mental health journey.
Users can choose an AI therapist that best matches their needs, and the platform then creates a personalized program for them. Between live sessions, The Path provides customized exercises, interventions, and training to help users make progress in different areas. The platform also includes strong safety features for users in crises, including connections to crisis hotlines and human therapists. In a recent safety benchmark, The Path scored 95, compared with scores of 65 for leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

"Mental health care is backward. We only step in once someone has reached a crisis point. I've seen this play out in my own family, and I knew we needed to build a platform that worked differently," said Whitmer. "The Path is built on a new premise: the system is designed to understand where users are psychologically and guide them forward with continuity and intelligent sequencing. Unlike general-purpose AI, The Path is purpose-built for psychological growth, remembering user history, challenging assumptions and helping users build toward long-term goals. We want to help people understand their emotions, build healthier habits and find a clear way forward."
"Anson and his team have pioneered the frontier of AI and mental health for years. With The Path they have built a platform that enables proactive mental health and wellness," said Dakin Sloss, founder and general partner at Prime Movers Lab. "By combining clinically-informed AI with a deeply personalized user experience, The Path sets itself apart from general-purpose models that struggle with the nuances of psychological safety. This isn't just another chatbot, it's a sophisticated guide that understands the continuity of a human journey. We are proud to lead this round and work alongside the team to scale this life-changing technology and redefine the mental health landscape."
