Guthrie AI Raises $4M in Seed Funding Led by Chicago Ventures

Guthrie AI, a Philadelphia, PA-based construction technology company, has raised $4 million in a Seed funding round led by Chicago Ventures.

The company will use the funding to grow its engineering team and strengthen integrations with tools that estimators use every day, including Bluebeam, Outlook, and Excel.

Guthrie AI has built a platform that helps glazing contractors quickly hire and manage trained Virtual Bid Assistants (VBAs). These assistants are ready to work from day one and can follow each company's existing bidding process.

By using a Guthrie AI VBA, glazing contractors can prepare up to 70% more bids without adding more in-house staff, helping them handle a higher volume of projects.

Ted Baumgardner is a former Marine intelligence officer who later worked as a glazing estimator. After experiencing the challenges of managing bids, he applied the structured analysis techniques he learned in the Marines to organize bid invitations, helping him review projects faster and spend more time building client relationships and winning new business.

The approach saved him so much time that he turned it into a platform for other glazing contractors. After testing the platform with industry partners for two years, Guthrie AI is now being launched to the wider market.

“We realized that a lot of estimator time was getting eaten up just transferring data from Bluebeam to Excel to email or other platforms. We’ve built the connectors so that once information is in Bluebeam, it is automatically transferred to the formats that our clients need it in,” said Tuneer De, co-founder and Head of Product at Guthrie AI.

"We’re not building a self-driving car. Not yet. There’s still a person behind the wheel, a real “VBA” who knows how to do a takeoff and price a job the way you need. What we built is the app that makes it easy to hire that person, train them, and work with them every day. Uber never built a car. What they built was the app that makes it easy to find a driver. That’s what we’re doing for glazing contractors," said Ted Baumgardner, founder and President of Guthrie AI.
