KilgourMD Raises Series A Funding Led by Prelude Growth Partners

KilgourMD, a Sacramento, CA-based scalp health and hair growth brand, has raised an undisclosed amount in a Series A funding round led by Prelude Growth Partners.

The round also saw participation from existing investors Willow Growth, Joyance Partners, and Able Partners.

Prelude Growth Partners’ Managing Partner Alicia Sontag will join the company’s Board of Directors, alongside Dr. Kilgour, Deborah Benton (series seed lead investor and Willow Growth managing partner), and COO Dr. Alok Prasad.

The company plans to use the funds to grow its pipeline of active ingredients, create new product formulations, and run clinical trials focused on underserved hair loss populations.

KilgourMD offers a range of treatment and prevention serums, along with its new shampoo and conditioner, and has built a highly engaged customer base. Over one-third of customers recommend the products to others, helping open conversations about hair loss and scalp health. The brand now sells one bottle of scalp serum every 20 seconds.

KilgourMD sits between clinical dermatology and everyday hair care, creating a new approach that treats scalp aging as a key cause of hair thinning. The brand focuses on science-backed solutions, showing that hair regrowth and reduced hair fall can be achieved without the harsh side effects of traditional treatments.

Prelude Growth Partners is a New York-based investment firm that supports fast-growing, founder-led consumer brands in areas like health and wellness, beauty, food, and consumer services.

The funding comes after a profitable 2025 and the completion of the brand’s first clinical trial focused on menopausal women using its two-step scalp serum system. In the study, 95% of participants showed reduced hair shedding within six weeks and by four months, most saw noticeable hair regrowth, confirmed by independent dermatologists. The results have been accepted for publication in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology.

“KilgourMD are establishing itself as a thought leader in this space,” said Alicia Sontag, Managing Partner at Prelude Growth Partners. “Dr. Kilgour has built a highly differentiated, clinically grounded platform with exceptional consumer traction. We’re excited to support the company as it continues its clinical research, expands its innovation pipeline and establishes itself as the powerhouse brand in scalp health.”

“KilgourMD was created after seeing my mother and many patients struggle with hair loss during menopause,” said Dr. James Kilgour. “I developed our clinically proven scalp serum to meet this need, and today we sell a bottle every 20 seconds. Prelude Growth shares our vision for improving scalp health, and I’m excited to work with them as we expand our research and product development.”

About KilgourMD

Founded by Dr. James Kilgour, a Stanford-trained, board-certified dermatologist, KilgourMD is redefining hair care by focusing on scalp health first. His mother’s experience inspired the brand with menopause-related hair loss and the lack of effective, gentle treatments. Using its own specially developed formulas, KilgourMD targets scalp aging to provide clinically proven solutions for hair thinning across all genders and hair types, focusing on both prevention and treatment for long-term scalp and hair health.
