Inner Logic (fka Semaphor), a Baltimore, MD-based medical technology startup, has raised $11.5 million in a Seed funding round led by General Catalyst and Bison Ventures.

SUMMARY

  • Inner Logic raised $11.5 million in a seed funding round led by General Catalyst and Bison Ventures.
  • Inner Logic is a medical technology company that helps device manufacturers design, test, and validate surgical devices using virtual patients and AI-powered simulations.
  • The funding will support product development, business expansion, and the growth of its virtual testing platform for medical devices and autonomous surgery.

The round also saw participation from J2VP, Defined, PTX, Valia Ventures, Page One, Alumni Ventures, and Flare.

The company will use the funding to expand its operations and accelerate product development.

Inner Logic provides a platform that helps medical device companies design, test, and validate surgical devices using thousands of virtual patients and procedures before they are used in real clinical settings. The platform also helps build the technology needed to support the future of autonomous surgery.

Today, medical device companies still rely heavily on physical testing. They build prototypes, test them in cadaver labs or animal studies, and improve them one step at a time. This process is expensive, time-consuming, and only covers a small number of patient cases.

Inner Logic changes this by moving testing into a virtual environment. Its platform lets companies design and test devices on thousands of virtual patients created from real clinical data. This helps teams improve devices faster and test them across many more patient types. It also makes it easier to develop autonomous surgical systems, where physical testing alone cannot cover every possible situation.

“The Inner Logic team's research has shown that procedural autonomy isn't a distant vision, it's nearly here. But getting there requires a fundamental shift: moving development, testing, and evidence generation in silico. We believe the team's thought leadership at the intersection of AI, medicine, and robotics makes them the right ones to build that infrastructure for the industry,” said Reva Nohria, Partner at General Catalyst.

“Inner Logic has the rare combination of both extreme technical talent in world leading robotics and physical AI models, and deep surgical knowledge,” said Caleb Appleton, Partner at Bison Ventures. “Hardware advancements enabled non-incremental improvements in surgery over the last two decades yet hardware improvement is becoming incremental.

At Inner Logic, we are building that layer for all of procedural medicine starting with the way devices are designed and tested. When device makers can develop and prove intelligent systems this way, the quality of a patient's care stops depending on which hospital they can access or which surgeon is on call," said Tito Porras, MD, Co-Founder and CEO, Inner Logic.

About Inner Logic

Founded by Tito Porras, Mathias Unberath and Axel Krieger, Inner Logic develops software that helps medical device companies design and test procedural devices. Its platform uses real clinical data to simulate how devices perform across thousands of virtual patients before physical testing. This help's manufacturers develop safer, and more effective devices while reducing the need for costly cadaver labs and animal studies.
