OpenRouter Raises $113M in Series B Funding Led by CapitalG

May 27, 2026 | By Startuprise io

OpenRouter, a NYC-based AI model exchange company, has raised $113 million in a Series B funding round led by CapitalG.

The round also saw participation from NVentures, ServiceNow Ventures, MongoDB Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, Databricks Ventures, alongside existing investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures.

The company plans to use the funding to grow its operations and continue developing its products and services.

OpenRouter provides a simple platform that helps developers and businesses access and manage both closed-source and open-source AI models through one interface. Its marketplace includes hundreds of AI models and providers, allowing applications and AI agents to choose the best option for performance and cost.

The platform also gives organizations one place to manage billing, monitor usage, track AI requests and apply policies such as data handling rules, team permissions and spending limits. OpenRouter’s intelligent routing system helps businesses improve performance, control costs, and maintain clear audit and reporting capabilities.

Operationally, OpenRouter works between enterprise applications and AI model providers, helping manage and optimize AI traffic across more than 400 models from companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, and DeepSeek.

Beyond its routing platform, OpenRouter is also building a valuable dataset based on real-world AI usage. Investors, researchers, and businesses increasingly use its public rankings and model usage information to track AI adoption trends, pricing, and model performance.

This gives OpenRouter insight into live AI traffic patterns across the market, helping enterprises compare providers, evaluate costs, and make better deployment decisions.

OpenRouter shares its model usage and ranking data publicly, and the information has become an important reference point across the AI industry for tracking adoption trends, model performance, and pricing.

The company’s platform usage has grown rapidly to around 25 trillion tokens per week, up from 5 trillion tokens per week six months ago. OpenRouter now supports more than 8 million users worldwide, including AI startups and large enterprises.

Chief Executive Officer Alex Atallah described large-scale inference management as fundamentally a “multi-model problem,” arguing that enterprises now require infrastructure capable of dynamically routing requests in real time based on changing model economics and performance conditions.
