Opus1 Closes Series B Funding from Five Elms Capital

Opus1, a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of a management platform for music and performing arts schools, has raised an undisclosed amount in a Series B funding round. Backers were not disclosed.

The company plans to use the funds to speed up product development and enhance its platform, helping schools run and grow their operations through a single, integrated system.

Founder and former CEO Sam Lellouche will move into the role of Chief Strategy Officer, staying actively involved as part of the executive team and the Board of Directors.

Opus1, a top management platform for music, and performing arts schools, raised a Series B round, highlighting the growing demand for modern, specialized software in a large, underserved market and recognizing Opus1’s leadership in shaping this category.

Music education is central to Opus1’s mission. The platform provides easy to use tools for scheduling, billing, communication, marketing and analytics, helping performing arts schools run efficiently and deliver excellent experiences for students and families. By reducing administrative work, Opus1 allows educators to focus on what matters most: developing students creativity, confidence, and lifelong skills through the arts.

The leadership change and Series B funding are key milestones in Opus1’s growth as a leading platform for performing arts education. With adoption rising among music schools and other arts programs, Opus1 now supports over 200,000 active students and manages more than 10 million lessons each year, making it one of the largest platforms in the space. The company continues to scale its technology to serve a growing community of schools, educators, students, and families.

Mohan is focused on mission-driven software and believes in building products guided by customer needs. At Opus1, he will work closely with school owners and administrators to make sure product development reflects real-world feedback and changing industry demands.

Founder and former CEO Sam Lellouche personally chose Mohan to lead the company’s next chapter. Lellouche will stay involved as Chief Strategy Officer and a Board Director.

Opus1’s mission stays the same: help performing arts schools spend less time on admin and more time on students and families. What has changed is the opportunity. The performing arts education market is large, fragmented, and lacks modern software. Opus1’s fast growth shows strong demand for purpose-built, all-in-one solutions. Under Mohan’s leadership, the company plans to expand across music and other lesson and class based programs, becoming the go to platform for the next generation of performing arts education.

“The first time I visited one of our schools, I could feel the energy immediately,” said Sharad Mohan, CEO of Opus1. “Kids were arriving, music was playing in every room and teachers were working with students who were clearly excited to be there. That moment made it clear why Opus1 exists: to give music and dance schools technology that lets educators focus on what they do best—developing the next generation of performing arts talent. I’m excited to work with educators and keep building tools that support these communities as they grow and inspire future generations.”

Mohan brings strong experience in building category-leading platforms. As Co-Founder and CEO of Trainerize, a vertical SaaS platform for personal trainers and gyms, he helped create and scale a new software category, guiding the company through rapid growth. His mix of founder energy and operational expertise positions Opus1 to lead the performing arts software market.

“Building Opus1 has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Sam Lellouche, Founder of Opus1. “I’m most proud of how the platform has helped performing arts schools grow stronger and make a bigger impact in their communities. As we enter our next phase, Sharad’s experience in building category-leading vertical software and his passion for mission-driven businesses make him the perfect person to lead Opus1. I’m excited to work alongside him as I move into the role of Chief Strategy Officer, staying deeply involved with our product, customers, and long-term vision.”
