With this deal, Scale Microgrids will grow its data centre business by leveraging Reload’s expertise in powered land development and its multi-gigawatt pipeline to accelerate power delivery for large data centres.
Reload is a proven platform for developing powered land with a multi-gigawatt pipeline, designed for large-scale data centre growth. The acquisition builds on Scale Microgrids’ expanding data centre business, which includes active projects, ongoing equipment purchases, and the upcoming launch of a multi-hundred-megawatt on-site energy system for a leading hyperscaler.
Scale, a leading provider of advanced energy solutions, manages hundreds of operating and in-progress energy projects for large commercial, industrial, and data centre customers. Its data centre team is focused on delivering gigawatts of energy capacity to hyperscalers and data centre operators in the coming years, helping overcome the long delays often seen with utility connections.
Scale is supported by EQT, a global investment firm and one of the largest owners of digital and energy infrastructure. This backing provides the capital needed to develop, own, and operate gigawatts of on-site energy assets for commercial, industrial, and data centre customers. Scale is an important part of EQT’s global portfolio of power, fibre, and data centre companies, using long-term capital and operational expertise to deliver energy and digital infrastructure that supports next-generation AI workloads.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP represented EQT, Womble Bond Dickinson LLP represented Scale, and Reload was advised by Expedition Infrastructure Partners and represented by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
“We’re excited to work with Scale. Their experience, combined with EQT’s long-term capital and industry knowledge, will help us create a unique platform,” said Reload CEO Mike Grunow. “Together, we’re building a fully integrated solution for large-scale campus development and efficient energy centre design and operations, helping the energy industry better serve its most important customers.”
“Bringing Reload’s team on board improves our ability to deliver fast, integrated power solutions for data centres,” said Ryan Goodman, CEO of Scale. “Over the past year, we’ve focused on growing our data centre capabilities and advancing major projects for hyperscale customers, and we’re excited to keep building on this progress.”
