V-Glass, a Waukesha, WI-based R&D firm developing vacuum-insulated glass, has raised $3 million in a Seed funding round led by the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and its affiliate, Neglected Climate Opportunities.

The company plans to use the funds to improve its automation and manufacturing technology and speed up the launch of a pilot plant.
V-Glass is building a manufacturing platform to produce vacuum-insulated glass (VIG) at low cost with much better thermal performance. The company says its VIG products can be two to three times more efficient than ENERGY STAR-rated windows, last twice as long, and be made at a similar cost to current options.
“Windows are the biggest source of heat loss in buildings, making up just 8% of surface area but 45% of thermal energy loss,” said Mike Petit, Co-Founder and CEO of V-Glass. “While high-efficiency glass like triple panes and first generation VIGs have existed for decades, they’re too expensive for widespread use. Affordable, ultra-efficient V-Glass changes that, offering strong financial returns for building owners and homeowners.”
“We’ve evaluated many building technologies and believe V-Glass is a breakthrough for both energy efficiency and cost,” said Josh Agenbroad of the Grantham Foundation. “Their glass not only saves energy but also sets a new environmental standard with 100% recyclability, and non-toxic materials—clear advantages over existing solutions.”
The company also noted its 15-year collaboration with the Department of Energy and national laboratories, which provided technical support and non-dilutive funding. More recently, V-Glass won its first contract with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Centre.
V-Glass seeks to close the cost-performance gap by offering glass that is affordable, more energy-efficient, and sustainable. Its technology uses non-toxic, fully recyclable materials, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional glass.
The company is tackling a key inefficiency in buildings: windows account for a large share of heat loss. Although high-efficiency glass, such as triple-pane windows and early VIG products, has been around for years, its high cost has kept it from widespread use.
About V-Glass
Founded in 2008 by Peter Petit and Michael Petit, V-Glass has created a next-generation platform for producing vacuum-insulated glass (VIG) that offers 2–3 times the thermal performance of ENERGY STAR® windows, lasts twice as long, and costs the same to manufacture.
