WindBorne Systems, a provider of an atmospheric sensing system and AI weather model, secures $15million in series A round funding.

Khosla Ventures led the round. Participating investors included Convective Capital, Pear VC, and Footwork VC. The money will be used by the business to quicken engineering across its whole technology stack:

Expanding the balloon constellation used for real-time data collecting. enhancing its software for autonomous flight developing its worldwide model for AI-based weather forecasting. As it expands into the commercial sector and foreign governments, it will also increase the number of technical employees and the size of its strategic revenue teams, which include proposal and business development.

Under the direction of its CEO, John Dean, WindBorne develops, produces, and manages a constellation of intelligent, long-duration sensing balloons that enhance AI global weather forecasts. The majority of the few pounds that make up each balloon is sand ballast. The balloons have specialised avionics and in-house sensors that allow for real-time communication and navigation.

With its global network of autonomous, long-duration atmospheric sensing balloons, WindBorne has completed more than 1,000 flying missions since its start in 2019.
