The company aims to strengthen US domestic production of critical materials, including titanium sponge and zirconium oxychloride. These materials are important for manufacturing aerospace alloys, defense equipment, nuclear fuel components, gas turbines, rockets, and AI chips.

AAM's first facility is designed around the commercially established Kroll process, which is used to produce titanium sponge. The company plans to build an integrated manufacturing platform that can expand into related materials by sharing feedstock, infrastructure, and technical expertise.

About American Advanced Materials

How Much Funding Has American Advanced Materials Raised?

American Advanced Materials has raised $12.5 million in its seed funding round. The company has not disclosed details of any previous funding rounds or its total funding before this investment.

The new capital will support team expansion and engineering and design work for its planned manufacturing projects.

Who Invested in American Advanced Materials’ Seed Round?

The $12.5 million seed round was led by Amity Ventures.

Other participating investors include Human Capital, Anti Fund, and Powerset. The company has not disclosed each investor's individual investment amount.

Why the Funding Matters

The funding comes as the United States seeks to strengthen its domestic supply of critical industrial materials.

According to the company, the U.S. has not produced titanium sponge since 2020, while imports reached a record 44,000 metric tons in 2025, based on figures cited from the U.S. Geological Survey. Industry experts project domestic demand to reach 60000 metric tons over the following 18 months.

AAM aims to address this supply gap by developing domestic manufacturing capacity for titanium sponge, and other strategic materials. It's planned facility is intended to support production for aerospace, defense, energy and Artificial intelligence infrastructure industries.

Who Founded American Advanced Materials?

American Advanced Materials was founded in 2025 by Alex Liegl and Diego Represas. The company is based in Mountain View, California and New York City, New York.

Its founding team has experience designing, building, and operating large-scale titanium sponge and zirconium plants in the United States and internationally. The wider team also includes professionals with experience at Tesla, ATI, TIMET, and Westinghouse.

"America has the feedstock, energy, and expertise to lead in manufacturing these materials again," said Alex Liegl, co-founder and CEO of AAM. "We aspire to build a next-generation DuPont, with globally competitive quality and cost as the starting point.

"We're combining decades of process knowledge with modern engineering, AI, and robotics automation," said Diego Represas, co-founder, President, and Chief Technology Officer of AAM. "America doesn't need to wait for new technologies to lead the world in production cost, quality, and volume.

Market and Business Growth

AAM has signed letters of intent for future titanium sponge and zirconium oxychloride production worth more than $1 billion. Potential customers include domestic titanium melters and alloy makers serving the aerospace, AI infrastructure, defense and energy sectors.

These agreements indicate potential demand for the materials the company plans to manufacture, although the letters of intent do not necessarily represent completed sales.

What Happens Next?

American Advanced Materials plans to expand its team and advance the engineering and design of its manufacturing projects. It also intends to secure project financing to build and operate its integrated commercial facility.

Over time, the company aims to expand beyond titanium sponge and zirconium oxychloride to manufacture additional advanced materials for strategic industries in the United States and allied markets.
