Goalsetter, a company that offers a platform for budgeting, saving, accumulating wealth, and financial education, has raised $9.6 million in a series A funding round.

Through its MM Catalyst Fund, an affiliate of Edward Jones and MassMutual led the round. Along with new investors Reseda Group and InTouchCU, series A investors Fiserv, Webster Bank, Seae Ventures, Astia Fund, and Partnership Fund for New York City also took part.

Before a Series B raise, the business plans to use the funds to execute ongoing initiatives and continue forming new B2B partnerships.

Goalsetter, under the direction of founder and CEO Tanya Van Court, offers families access to instructional material and wealth-building tools through a goal-based savings and smart spending platform.

Its platform employs financial wellness content designed around pop culture, memes, GIFS, and game-based tools to educate families the language of money in ways that young customers actively engage with. It is mapped to JumpStart.org and the Council for Economic Education (CEE) national financial education guidelines.

Features like “Learn to Earn,” which lets kids earn money for each financial quiz question they get right, and “Learn Before You Burn,” which lets parents automatically freeze teens’ and tweens’ debit cards if they haven’t taken their financial quiz for the week, are in addition to the gamification and entertaining gifs and memes that teach kids about money.

In order to provide the app platform as a white-labeled youth-banking solution, Goalsetter has partnered with major financial institutions such as MSU Federal Credit Union, InTouch CU, Solutions Bank, and Liberty Bank, in addition to banks and credit unions such as Fiserv, Trustage, and CUNA Strategic Services.
