Oishii Raises $150M in Series C First Close

May 14, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Oishii, the Jersey City, NJ-based company behind the indoor vertical strawberry farm, has raised $150 million in the first close of its Series C funding round led by SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd., with participation from Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., MISUMI Group Inc., Mizuho Bank Ltd., and others. The raise brought the total amount to $370 million since its founding in 2016.

The company plans to use the funding to expand production capacity, improve robotics integration, grow its farm infrastructure and develop new products within its Smart Farm platform. It will also continue investing in research, development and innovation efforts in the United States and Japan.

While the vertical farming industry has slowed in recent years, Oishii has continued to grow by focusing on automation, robotics, wider consumer availability, and technology innovation. The company has expanded distribution across 18 U.S. states, entered Toronto as its first international retail market, launched new product formats, and increased its research efforts in Japan through a new Open Innovation Center in Tokyo.

Robotics and automation are now a key part of Oishii’s strategy to improve strawberry production quality, consistency and efficiency. After acquiring Tortuga AgTech in 2025, the company strengthened its harvesting robotics and engineering capabilities. Earlier this year, Oishii also partnered with MISUMI Group Inc. to support growing automation, and manufacturing operations across the United States and Japan.

Oishii has expanded beyond its original ultra-premium positioning to reach a broader consumer base. Since launching the Omakase Berry in 2018 at nearly $50 per tray, the company has introduced new products such as the Koyo Berry, and Nikko Berry, along with different pack sizes, and retail formats priced between $4.99 and $15. Oishii has also expanded into pantry products with its Premium Preserves line.

The Nikko Berry, launched in 2025, reflects Oishii’s focus on product innovation driven by consumer demand, retail insights and farming technology. Earlier this year the company introduced new top seal packaging for the Nikko Berry to improve freshness, extend shelf life and support retail growth while reducing plastic use by 80% compared to traditional clamshell packaging.

Together, these developments show Oishii entering a new stage of growth, expanding production, reaching more consumers, and strengthening its position in the future of indoor vertical farming.

"When we chose strawberries, we knew we were selecting one of the hardest paths in indoor farming," said Hiroki Koga, Co-Founder and CEO of Oishii. "They require precision at every stage, from pollination and harvesting to freshness and shelf life, and there were moments along the way where solving one challenge revealed the next one underneath it. This funding marks a new phase for Oishii as we scale what we've built, with deeper confidence in the decisions we've made and the role we can play in bringing high-quality produce to more people."

"Since our Series A investment in 2019, we have continuously supported Oishii Farm's growth. It is truly inspiring to see the vision we shared at that time steadily becoming a reality as the company advances seamlessly from research and development to proof of concept, and commercialization," said Shuhei Abe, President & CEO of SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd. "One of the company's key strengths lies in its exceptional execution capability, which has enabled rapid technological advancement. As Oishii Farm enters a new phase with the establishment of its Open Innovation Center in Japan, we look forward to continuing to support it's growth."
