Peak Energy Raises $108M in Series B Funding Led by General Motors Ventures

SUMMARY

  • Peak Energy raised $108 million in Series B funding.
  • The funds will support US expansion.
  • Peak Energy makes sodium-ion batteries for energy storage.

Peak Energy, a Sacramento, CA-based developer of passively cooled sodium-ion energy storage systems for the grid, has raised $108 million in a Series B financing round.

The round was led by General Motors Ventures with participation from Maverick Silicon, Infinite Capital, Eclipse, Xora Innovation, and LG Technology Ventures.

The company will use the funding to scale domestic manufacturing and launch its energy storage products for the data centre market.

What is Peak Energy?

Peak Energy develops grid-scale energy storage systems using sodium-ion battery technology. Its systems are designed to store electricity and deliver it when needed, helping utilities, power producers and data centres manage energy demand.

The company's flagship product uses passive cooling, which reduces the need for complex cooling equipment. Peak Energy says this design can lower the cost of energy by up to 20% compared with conventional storage systems.

Its technology is also designed to reduce energy waste, require zero planned maintenance and lower long-term operating costs. The company says its systems consume no water, produce virtually no noise and eliminate the leading causes of battery fires.

About Peak Energy

How Much Funding Has Peak Energy Raised?

Peak Energy raised $108 million in its latest Series B funding round. The announcement does not disclose the company's total funding raised across all rounds.

The company has also secured more than $1 billion in customer commitments and commercial agreements, including deals with Jupiter Power, RWE and Energy Vault.

Who Invested in Peak Energy’s Series B?

General Motors Ventures led Peak Energy's $108 million Series B round.

Other participating investors included Maverick Silicon, Infinite Capital, Eclipse, Xora Innovation and LG Technology Ventures.

The investment follows Peak Energys strategic partnership with General Motors, announced in June 2026, to develop next generation sodium-ion battery cells for grid energy storage.

Why the Funding Matters

Peak Energy will use the new capital to expand domestic manufacturing and introduce its products to the data centre market.

Demand for electricity storage is increasing as data centres and other energy-intensive businesses require more reliable power. Peak Energy aims to address this demand with systems designed to reduce operating costs and improve energy efficiency.

The company is also developing its US manufacturing capacity. In July, it unveiled a 4 GWh manufacturing facility in Sacramento, California, which is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2027.

Who founded Peak Energy?

Peak Energy was founded in 2023 by Landon Mossburg and Cameron Dales.

The company is headquartered in Sacramento, California. It's team includes professionals with experience at Tesla, Enovix, and Fluence.

"Peak's mission from day one has been to lower the cost of energy through safer, simpler, cleaner, and more reliable technology," said Landon Mossburg, co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Peak Energy. "The investment we announce today will supercharge Peak's ability to scale and deliver as the world increasingly turns to passively cooled sodium-ion storage to solve our energy needs."

"GM Ventures is investing to help Peak Energy continue to scale this innovative technology because we believe it has significant potential in the energy storage market as a safe, cost-effective solution using abundant, domestically sourced materials," said Kevin McCabe, president of GM Ventures.

Market and Business Growth

Peak Energy has secured more than $1 billion in commercial agreements and customer commitments. Its customers and commercial partners include Jupiter Power, RWE and Energy Vault.

The company is expanding its presence in grid-scale energy storage as demand grows among utilities, power producers and data centre operators.

What Happens Next?

Peak Energy plans to scale its US manufacturing operations, launch its energy storage products for data centres and continue developing next-generation sodium-ion battery technology with General Motors.

The company expects its Sacramento factory to begin production in the first quarter of 2027, supporting its plans to expand supply for grid-scale energy storage customers.
