Xellar Biosystems Raises $50M in Series A and A+ Financing

Jul 3, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Xellar Biosystems, a Boston, MA-based AI-driven biotech company advancing a 3D Bio Intelligence platform, has raised $50 million in a Series A and A+ financing round. Backers were not disclosed.

The company will use the funding to expand Xellar's integrated technology platform, including organ-on-chip systems, laboratory automation, high-content imaging, multi-omics analysis, and AI-powered biological modeling.

Drug discovery remains expensive, slow, and difficult, largely because of the limited availability of high-quality, human-relevant biological data. Xellar was founded to solve this challenge by building advanced biological infrastructure that can generate, understand, and predict human biology.

Its platform combines human organ on chip models, automated laboratory experiments, and AI driven analysis in a closed-loop system. By continuously producing high-quality biological data under realistic conditions, Xellar is building the foundation for next-generation biological AI models and virtual cell technologies.

Unlike traditional preclinical research that depends on animal models or simple laboratory tests, Xellar uses advanced human-based models to capture complex biological processes in greater detail. This helps researchers better understand how diseases develop, how drugs work, their potential side effects, and how patients may respond to treatment.

By combining human-relevant biology with artificial intelligence, Xellar enables researchers to move beyond simply observing biological processes and toward predicting treatment outcomes.

With the new funding, Xellar will expand its automated biological data generation platform, strengthen its AI and computational biology teams, and accelerate the development of its virtual cell technology.

By combining human-based biological models with artificial intelligence, Xellar aims to make drug discovery faster, more accurate, and more scalable.

"AI alone will not revolutionize drug discovery," said Xin Xie, PhD, Founder and CEO of Xellar. "The future belongs to organizations that can generate high-quality human data at scale. We believe organ-on-chip systems, automation, and AI must work together in a closed-loop flywheel. Our mission is to transform biology from something we observe into something we can systematically understand, model, and ultimately predict."

About Xellar

Founded in 2022 by Xin Xie, Xellar Biosystems is an AI-driven biotechnology company that combines Organ on a Chip (OoC) technology, advanced imaging and machine learning to speed up drug discovery. Its platform creates realistic 3D human tissue models to test drugs, evaluate safety, and predict clinical outcomes more accurately than traditional methods.
