Greenberg Traurig Adds Labor & Employment Lawyer Daniel O. Canales in Chicago

Greenberg Traurig has added Daniel O. Canales as a shareholder in its Labor & Employment Practice in Chicago. He joined the firm from Duane Morris, where he was a partner.

Daniel O. Canales has extensive experience representing employers in labor, employment, trade secret, restrictive covenant, and commercial matters before courts, arbitration panels, and government agencies across the United States.

He advises and represents businesses ranging from small companies to multinational corporations in industries including retail, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, energy, banking, trading, distribution, and private equity.

Daniel O. Canales has led jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration cases involving wage and hour disputes, discrimination and retaliation claims, contract disputes, and workplace violence matters. He has also handled important appeals before the Seventh Circuit and Illinois appellate courts.

His employment litigation work includes cases related to Title VII, the FMLA, the ADA, the ADEA, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and related state and local employment laws.

In addition to employment litigation, Daniel O. Canales advises employers on contract disputes, partnership matters, restrictive covenants, and trade secret issues. He regularly handles cases involving temporary restraining orders and injunctions.

He has also led internal investigations related to harassment, fraud, and workplace safety, advised companies on mergers, reorganizations, layoffs, and due diligence matters, negotiated collective bargaining agreements, and conducted wage and hour compliance audits.

Daniel O. Canales previously served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where he taught employment law. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior consultant in the Human Capital Practice at Deloitte.

Daniel O. Canales earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he received a Certificate in Labor and Employment Law. He also earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and was an Evans Scholar.
