Kimba Raises $6.5M in Funding Led by Selva Ventures

Kimba, a NYC-based sleep technology company, has raised $6.5 million in a funding round led by Selva Ventures.

The company plans to use the funding to support its commercial launch and speed up its growth efforts.

Kimba was developed with leading sleep and neuroscience researchers and combines consumer health technology with sleep science. Unlike many sleep products that only monitor sleep, Kimba is designed to help users sleep better actively.

The device uses the olfactory pathway, the only sensory system that can influence the brain during sleep without waking a person. Through personalized scent based interventions Kimba aims to promote deeper and more restorative sleep without the use of drugs or disruptions.

Kimba creates a personalized sleep profile for each user and develops custom scent formulations made from water-based and plant-derived ingredients. These scents are tailored to an individual’s sleep habits and preferences.

The system continuously tracks biometric data throughout the night, including breathing patterns, movement, heart rate variability and stress levels. It collects this information through built-in sensors and integrations with wearable devices such as WHOOP, Oura, Apple Watch, Fitbit and Garmin.

Using AI, Kimba analyzes the data in real time to understand changes in the user’s sleep state and delivers personalized scent cues at the right moments during the night. The goal is to improve sleep quality, recovery, and sleep continuity through a drug-free, non-invasive solution that avoids pills, grogginess, and dependency.

Kimba’s technology is supported by early clinical research. In a recent study involving 50 participants over 48 nights, conducted with olfactory neuroscience expert Dr. Anat Arzi the system showed meaningful improvements in sleep quality, and cognitive performance.

The company is also conducting two additional clinical studies under the guidance of sleep expert Professor Peretz Lavie. One study uses polysomnography (PSG) testing to measure the effects of Kimba on sleep quality, while the other focuses on mental health and PTSD to evaluate its impact on sleep and recovery.

“Sleep is one of the most critical, and underserved pillars of health, said Kiva Dickinson, Founder of Selva Ventures. Kimba represents a breakthrough in how we improve sleep, shifting the category from passive tracking to active intervention. We are proud to support the team as they bring this technology to market.”

“The influence of sensory input during sleep is significant, said Dr Arzi. “Olfactory stimulation is uniquely beneficial for this because it can influence brain activity without waking the individual. By aligning scent delivery with specific breathing pattern's sleep stages and physiological signals this approach has the potential to improve sleep quality meaningfully.”

“Kimba was built on a simple but powerful idea that sleep shouldn’t just be measured; it should be improved,” said Ben Fuxbruner, Founder, and CEO of Kimba. “We’re introducing a fundamentally new approach that uses scent to work with the brain during sleep, helping people achieve deeper more restorative rest without drugs or disruption. For me it was life-changing.”
