Lithuanian-Based Surfshark acquires US data privacy firm Optery

Lithuanian cybersecurity group Surfshark has acquired US-based technology company Optery for an undisclosed amount. The deal will strengthen Surfshark’s focus on protecting personal data.

Optery will continue to operate independently under the agreement. Both companies will keep separate teams, customers, and technology systems while working together on innovations.

Optery helps people remove their personal information from search engines and data broker databases. The acquisition marks Surfshark’s second US acquisition, following its purchase of Ironwall in 2024. Ironwall provides data removal services to government organisations and business leaders.

The Surfshark group includes Surfshark, which develops VPN and cybersecurity products, Incogni, a personal data removal service, and HeyPolo, a family safety platform.

Under the deal, Optery will continue to operate as an independent company. The group’s brands will keep separate teams, customers, and technology systems while working together on innovations.

"The acquisition of Optery will help us further strengthen our solutions, expand our technological capabilities, and innovate in the field of cybersecurity," said Vytautas Kaziukonis, founder and chairman of the board of Surfshark Group, in a statement.

Its technology finds and removes personal information from data brokers and people-search websites, helping reduce the risk of fraud, cyberattacks, and other threats. Optery’s technology can find around 100 exposed profiles per person on average and uses AI and machine learning to automate the data removal process.
