Who Invested in Luxor Technology’s Funding Round?
The round was led by CMT Digital, the venture capital arm of Chicago-based CMT Group.
Other participants included Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and additional angel investors.
Why the Funding Matters
Luxor will use the capital to scale its agentic cloud platform and fund its growing AI hardware business. It also plans to expand its compute derivatives trading and market-making operations.
The company will hire additional engineering and go-to-market employees to support these activities.
The investment comes as Luxor expands beyond Bitcoin mining into AI computing. Its experience in hardware trading, energy management and computing markets provides the foundation for its newer AI infrastructure services.
Who founded Luxor Technology?
Luxor Technology was founded in 2018 by Nick Hansen and Eddie Wang. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
"Compute markets are converging: the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now powering AI," said Nick Hansen, CEO and Co-Founder of Luxor. "We chose investors who operate in those markets that strengthen each part of our platform.
Nangeng Zhang, chairman and chief executive officer of Canaan, commented, "As Canaan pursues long-term power resources in North America as part of its compute-plus-energy infrastructure strategy, we believe that joining Luxor's cap table aligns with our goals.
Market and Business Growth
Luxor has reported several operational milestones across it's computing businesses:
- Hardware trading: Its brokerage desk has traded $1 billion worth of application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) hardware for Bitcoin mining.
- Energy services: Luxor Energy manages more than 75 megawatts of load across the ERCOT and SPP electricity markets.
- Cloud workloads: Its agentic cloud platform had processed 1.8 million workloads year-to-date as of September, according to the company.
- AI expansion: Luxor launched its Luxor AI business in September to bring its existing infrastructure and operational capabilities into the AI and high-performance computing markets.
The company also offers cash-settled options, forward contracts and backstops linked to compute-rental indexes through its over-the-counter trading desk.
What Happens Next?
Luxor plans to expand its AI cloud platform, increase its hardware operations and grow its compute derivatives business. It will also strengthen its engineering and commercial teams.
The company aims to build on its Bitcoin mining infrastructure experience as it develops services for the growing AI computing market.
