Hyperbolic Raises $30M in Strategic Funding for AI Compute

SUMMARY

  • Hyperbolic raised $30 million in strategic funding.
  • The funds will support platform development.
  • Hyperbolic provides computing resources for AI.

Hyperbolic, a San Francisco-based AI infrastructure company, has raised $30 million in a strategic funding round led by Walden Catalyst, a venture capital firm founded by Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and former Samsung Electronics executive Young Sohn.

The round also included Dell Technologies Capital, General Catalyst, Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital, Salience Capital and angel investors from financial services and GPU cloud computing companies.

The company will use the funding to develop Forge, its unified computing control platform, expand its multi-cloud orchestration services and build what it calls the first Global Compute Grid.

What is Hyperbolic?

Hyperbolic provides infrastructure that helps AI companies access and manage computing resources from different providers through a single platform.

Its control platform, Forge, helps businesses access computing capacity, manage resources and run AI workloads across different clusters and infrastructure providers.

The platform aims to make computing resources easier to purchase, manage and resell. It also helps AI companies improve GPU utilization and reduce computing costs, while allowing GPU providers to bring available capacity to market faster.

Hyperbolic plans to develop a system that can automatically identify suitable computing resources based on a customer's workload, budget and deadline. It aims to adjust resource allocation as prices, availability and performance change.

About Hyperbolic

How Much Funding Has Hyperbolic Raised?

Hyperbolic has raised $30 million in its latest strategic funding round. The company has not disclosed its total funding raised to date or details of previous funding rounds.

Who Invested in Hyperbolic’s Strategic Round?

The round was led by Walden Catalyst.

Other participants included Dell Technologies Capital, General Catalyst, Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital and Salience Capital. Angel investors included founders and executives from Citadel Securities, NYSE, Vista Equity Partners and GPU cloud providers WhiteFiber and Vector Core Compute.

Why the Funding Matters

Hyperbolic will use the funding to advance Forge, expand its multi-cloud orchestration capabilities and develop the Global Compute Grid.

The company also plans to make AI infrastructure easier to value and finance by connecting physical computing resources with financial markets.

Who founded Hyperbolic?

Hyperbolic was founded by Jasper Zhang. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California. The founding year was not provided.

“AI teams should be able to access compute wherever it is, run their workloads, and turn unused capacity into revenue through one platform,” said Jasper Zhang, founder and CEO of Hyperbolic. “We’re bringing orchestration and liquidity together so customers have more flexibility in how they use compute, while providers get more productive use and better returns from their infrastructure.”

“AI Compute is deeply challenged by supply and demand mismatch, making it incredibly difficult to harness for the AI developer,” said Shankar Chandran, Partner at Walden Catalyst. “Moreover, the myriad of options on compute, interconnects, storage, memory, as well as heterogeneity in the software stack compounds the challenge of accessing available capacity.

Market and Business Growth

Hyperbolic operates in the AI infrastructure market, where companies need access to large amounts of computing power to develop and run AI models.

Its platform is designed to serve AI companies that need computing resources and GPU providers looking to improve capacity utilization and generate revenue from their infrastructure.

What Happens Next?

Hyperbolic plans to continue developing Forge, expand its multi-cloud services and build the Global Compute Grid. Its long-term goal is to create a system that automatically matches AI workloads with suitable computing resources across providers, based on cost, availability, performance and customer requirements.
