Apr 23, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Microsoft has appointed Dan Shapero as the new CEO of Linkedin replacing Ryan Roslansky, who has led the company since 2020, and recently took on a larger role within Microsoft’s Office group. The change takes effect immediately.

Ryan Roslansky will continue as an executive vice president at Microsoft. He joined Linkedin in 2009 from Glam Media as head of product and became CEO six years later, succeeding Jeff Weiner. During his leadership, LinkedIn’s membership grew from about 700 million to 1.3 billion.

The change comes a few weeks after Rajesh Jha, a top Office leader at Microsoft, announced his retirement. Jha said he had been working with CEO Satya Nadella on succession planning and felt confident about the future, noting that Ryan Roslansky and other Office leaders report to Nadella.

Dan Shapero joined LinkedIn in 2008 as one of its early employees, around number 300, starting as a general manager of the Linkedin Research Network.

Linkedin’s revenue grew 11% year over year in the fourth quarter as it added more users and increased revenue per member, though growth has slowed since Microsoft acquired it for $27 billion in 2016. In comparison, Meta is more than 10 times larger by revenue and reported nearly 24% growth in the same period.

For the past five years, Shapero was Linkedin’s chief operating officer.

“Dan has led sales, marketing, and product across the most important parts of this business,” Roslansky wrote in a Linkedin post on Wednesday announcing the move. “He knows our members, our customers, and carries the mission in a way that’s genuinely rare.”

“Last year, when Satya Nadella asked me to lead Linkedin and Microsoft Office, I knew what he was betting on: AI is going to transform how people work and grow in their careers faster than most people expect. And LinkedIn and Office would be at the centre of that. That opportunity is only getting bigger. So we're scaling the team and talent to match it. First, I've asked Daniel Shapero to become the...

"Dan Shapero said he is excited to take on the role of CEO at Linkedin, calling his time at the company since joining in 2008 as one of the most meaningful experiences of his life, shaped by its people, culture, mission, and the impact they create together."
