Mongoose AI Raises Seed Extension Funding Led by Vertical Venture Partners

Mongoose AI, a NYC-based developer of governed AI agents for health insurance plans, has raised a seed extension funding round of an undisclosed amount, led by Vertical Venture Partners, with participation from Overstory Partners, Connecticut Innovations, and a group of healthcare enterprise executives.
The company plans to use the funding to accelerate its expansion across the U.S. payer market and to grow its software engineering team to strengthen and scale its core platform.
The launch establishes Mongoose AI as an AI platform for healthcare payers, enabling AI agents to manage customer interactions and automate operational workflows within a single, governed system.
Health plans are testing AI in many areas, but most current tools only handle simple tasks like answering questions or creating support tickets without actually completing the work. As a result, customer service still depends heavily on manual processes, routing systems and back-office teams managing growing workloads.
Mongoose AI is designed to go beyond simple AI assistants by using governed AI agents that can take direct action and complete tasks automatically, rather than just guiding users through the process.
Mongoose AI was built as an AI-native platform under Chief Technology Officer Scott Johnston, a former Google executive who helped create Google Drive, Meet, and Chat. Its AI agents work on top of existing healthcare systems, allowing payers to build AI-driven experiences across customer service and back-office operations without replacing their current infrastructure.
The platform is designed to keep protected health information (PHI) secure by limiting access to sensitive data within controlled workflows. Mongoose AI also has eight patent applications related to its governed AI agent technology and AI Experience Layer architecture, which aim to improve customer experiences while reducing operational costs.
Mongoose AI has launched a governed AI agent platform that includes conversational AI tools for employers, brokers, members, and providers to reduce customer service calls, personalized engagement tools that recommend next-best actions, AI agents that automate enrollment, eligibility, and administrative tasks across call centers and back-office operations, and a platform assistant that helps health plan teams quickly build and launch custom AI-driven applications and digital experiences.
“Customer experience doesn’t stop at the front door, and AI that only answers questions doesn’t move the needle for a health plan,” said Mark Nathan, Founder and CEO of Mongoose AI. “Health plans are under unprecedented pressure to absorb growing demand while lowering administrative costs. We built Mongoose AI so payers can deploy governed agents that actually execute work — from the front-door experience, to the call center and throughout the operations behind them — without ripping out the systems they already run on.”
About Mongoose AI
Founded in 2024 by Mark Nathan, Mongoose AI provides an AI platform for health plans that uses AI agents to manage customer interactions, and back office operations. The platform connects with existing system's instead of replacing them, helping teams automate and complete workflows more efficiently while maintaining governance and service quality. It is also designed for HIPAA compliance with digital experiences built to avoid storing protected health information and artificial intelligence (AI) agents accessing sensitive data only within secure workflows.
