Oratomic Raises $300M Series A funding co-led by ARCH Venture Partners

Jul 11, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Oratomic, a startup aiming to build the world's first utility-scale quantum computer by the end of the decade, has raised $300 million in a Series A funding round co-led by ARCH Venture Partners, Spark Capital, and Khosla Ventures.

The round also saw participation from Bezos Expeditions, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Lowercarbon Capital, Bain Capital, and others.

Founded by Caltech physicists, Oratomic is developing a quantum computer that uses lasers as optical tweezers to hold individual atoms in place.

The company was launched after its researchers found a way to correct quantum computing errors using far fewer qubits—the basic units of quantum computing—than previously believed. This breakthrough could make quantum computers more reliable and bring practical, large-scale quantum computing closer to reality.

Oratomic's technology uses focused laser beams, known as optical tweezers, to hold and arrange individual atoms in a flexible pattern. These atoms can be moved during computation, and because they remain stable for longer than superconducting qubits, they produce fewer errors.

This approach reduces the number of qubits needed for error correction and lowers the computing resources required to perform calculations. According to TechCrunch, it could also reduce the expensive infrastructure needed by many other quantum computing technologies.

Investor interest in quantum computing has grown rapidly in recent months. Several startups, including Infleqtion and Quantinuum, have gone public this year. At the same time, publicly traded companies such as Rigetti and IonQ have seen their share prices climb sharply over the past 18 months.

"You would not have previously been able to convince any of us to start a quantum computing company, because we just thought it was way too far away," Oratomic's co-founder and CEO Dolev Bluvstein. "Only when we made this recent breakthrough did we simultaneously all change our minds."

About Oratomic

Oratomic is a Pasadena, California-based quantum computing startup developing utility scale, fault tolerant quantum computers. The company uses neutral atoms held in place by laser beams to build its systems, with the goal of creating powerful and reliable quantum computers using advanced error correction technology.
