Phoenix Tailings Acquires Machinery Partner to Boost Rare Earth Production in the US
May 9, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Phoenix Tailings has acquired Boston-based technology company Machinery Partner to expand its capabilities in AI, automation, and digital manufacturing. The acquisition supports Phoenix Tailings’ goal of becoming a global leader in advanced rare-earth manufacturing and of strengthening the U.S. critical minerals industry.
Phoenix Tailings has built strong rare earth technology capabilities through its expertise in chemistry and industrial hardware. With the acquisition of Machinery Partner, the company is now adding digital technology as a third area of innovation.
Machinery Partner’s AI platform and operating system are already used at hundreds of industrial sites across the United States. Phoenix Tailings plans to use this technology in its refining operations to build a more automated, data-driven rare-earth manufacturing system.
Rare earth processing is one of the world’s most complex industries, requiring expertise in chemistry, materials science, and manufacturing. Phoenix Tailings believes the US must develop advanced new technologies rather than copy existing methods to compete globally, and strengthen America’s position in rare earth processing.
Phoenix Tailings is leveraging American innovation to build an advanced technology platform that combines chemistry, industrial equipment and digital technologies to support the future of rare earth manufacturing.
"Rare earth processing is ultimately a technology race," said Nick Myers, CEO and co-founder of Phoenix Tailings. "Success comes from having the best chemistry, the best industrial hardware, and now the best digital infrastructure. Phoenix Tailings has built the strongest rare earth technology platform in the world, and Machinery Partner accelerates our ability to continuously improve with every production run through AI, automation, and operational intelligence."

"Rare earth independence will not be achieved by simply rebuilding legacy industrial systems," said Clement Cazalot, co founder, and CEO of Machinery Partner. "The future belongs to companies that combine advanced chemistry, industrial hardware and digital intelligence into one integrated technology platform. Together, Phoenix Tailings and Machinery Partner are building the technological foundation that can outcompete global incumbents and accelerate America's rare earth freedom."
