Tavo Biotherapeutics Raises $17M in Series A Funding

Jun 3, 2026 | By Startuprise io

Tavo Biotherapeutics, a Laguna Beach, California-based developer of novel therapies for glaucoma and retinal disease, has raised $17 million in a Series A funding round led by Pureos Bioventures.

The round also saw participation from Polaris Partners and existing investor Tau Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Daniel Bradbury, Dominik Escher, Ph.D., and Nil Gural, Ph.D., joined Tavo’s board.

The company plans to use the funding to advance the clinical and preclinical development of its TAV-001, and TAV-002 programs, strengthen its research capabilities and move closer to key upcoming clinical milestones.

TAV’s TAV-001 is being developed as a topical therapy for glaucoma that may help modify the course of the disease. It works through a dual mechanism that targets the autonomic nervous system, which is involved in the inflammation and degeneration seen in glaucoma. The program is expected to enter a Phase 2 clinical trial in the second half of 2026.

TAV-002 is a bispecific antibody designed to target VEGF and another protein involved in early disease signaling. It is being developed to treat serious retinal conditions, including wet and dry age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathies.

"We are thrilled to partner with Pureos and Polaris, and we are grateful for the continued support of Tau Capital," said Gary Berman, Chief Executive Officer of Tavo Biotherapeutics. "This financing enables us to accelerate the advancement of our programs in glaucoma, and retinal disease, where there remains a critical need for new more effective treatment options. We are also excited to welcome Fede to the team. His deep clinical, and development experience will be invaluable as we advance our pipeline."

"Tavo has built a compelling pipeline addressing major unmet needs in ophthalmology with differentiated science and a clear clinical development strategy," said Dominik Escher. "We believe these programs have the potential to bring much better treatment options to patients. We are excited to lead this financing and support Tavo through its next phase of growth."
