SUMMARY

  • USAA named David F. Melcher as Chairman of its Board.
  • Melcher brings 30+ years of military and business experience.
  • USAA provides insurance, banking, and retirement services to military families.

The change reflects USAAs long tradition of leadership and service to the military community. The company was founded by 25 Army officers and continues to focus on serving military members and their families.

Zortman joined the USAA Board in 2013 and became Chairman in 2021. A USAA member for 54 years, he helped guide the company through major changes, including strengthening its financial and operations, adapting to changes in insurance and financial services, and improving its focus on members.

He continues to support the military community through nonprofit work with service members, veterans, and their families. Melcher has also been a USAA member for more than 51 years, giving him a strong connection to the organization and its members.

“I am proud to serve as Chairman of an Association that has meant so much to my family and me for more than five decades,” said Melcher. I have seen firsthand what this Association means to the military families we serve.

“This is an important moment for USAA, and one that comes with a great deal of gratitude,” said Juan C.
