Fence, a NYC-based provider of a platform supporting the infrastructure of asset-backed finance, has raised $20 million in a new funding round led by Galaxy Ventures, with participation from seed investors ParaFi Capital and Crane Ventures Partners.
The company plans to use the funds to expand into the U.S. market, grow its engineering team, and improve its product capabilities.
fence is built for the $15 trillion asset-backed finance market, which is still slow and inefficient despite advances in lending. Its platform replaces traditional intermediaries—like trust and agency providers—that handle verification, calculations, and payments between borrowers and lenders. These roles have long relied on manual work, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems, which is why much of the industry still operates through email and spreadsheets today.
Fence uses a smart contract based platform to replace traditional trust and agency providers with one unified system. It can verify assets, calculate borrowing limits, enforce rules and manage cash and collateral in real time. Clients can use it for a single function or combine everything into a single end to end system, offering flexibility while delivering the most value when fully integrated.

Fence has grown to manage $1.5 billion in assets across active programs, backed by major firms like BlackRock Fortress Investment Group, i80 Group, and BBVA. It's platform can handle tens of thousands of loans per second, and onboard new programs in weeks instead of months.
In a recent program with BBVA, Fence enabled near-instant funding multiple times a day, rather than the weekly or monthly cycles used previously. It also tracked hundreds of thousands of transactions in real time and reduced unused capital, helping lower borrowing costs. These are real, large-scale asset-backed finance programs—not test cases. Fence stands out by automating not just data and reporting, but also the actual movement of cash and collateral.
Looking ahead, Fence aims to become the core infrastructure for modern, more global, automated, and programmable debt capital markets. It plans to support today’s lenders and originators while positioning itself as the system that helps drive the shift toward more digital and automated financial markets.

“Others digitize the paperwork, Montero said, Fence rebuilt the plumbing. The data that verifies the asset and the collateral is the same data that moves the money. Thats where the real value is. Originate an asset sell it immediately recycle capital. That is what debt capital markets look like when the infrastructure actually works.”
“We’re building the rails for how debt capital markets will operate going forward,” said Montero. Not just making the current system more efficient, but preparing for a future where capital moves in real time, risk is fully transparent and financial infrastructure is truly internet native.”
“Structured credit has operated for decades on infrastructure that was never designed for today’s velocity or complexity, said Will Nuelle, General Partner of Galaxy Ventures. “What Stripe did for payments, Fence is working to do for debt capital markets. Fence is not layering software on top of a broken system; they are rebuilding the system itself. Their approach to real time verification, programmable cash flows, and institutional grade execution represents a step change for asset backed finance, in our view.”
“Asset-backed finance is the backend of the real economy, but it still runs on PDFs, spreadsheets, and email threads,” said Juan Montero, co-founder and CEO of Fence. “Lending has been transformed over the last decade, including underwriting, origination, and risk management. However, debt capital markets, the layer that actually funds lending operations, have not kept up technology-wise with the rest of the sector.
