Health Care Institute IHI Appoints Ronald Wyatt As Chief Medical Officer

In this newly created role, Dr. Wyatt will help guide IHI's clinical strategy and bring his medical expertise, frontline experience, and leadership to support the organization's mission of improving health and healthcare around the world.

Dr. Wyatt is a recognized leader in patient safety, health equity, and healthcare quality, with more than 30 years of experience at leading healthcare organizations in the U.S. and around the world.

He has also been an active member of the IHI community, contributing to its health equity initiatives in several leadership roles. He joins IHI after a competitive executive search.

Dr. Wyatt is a board-certified physician and has written extensively about patient safety, health equity, diagnostic excellence, safety culture, and the social factors that affect health. He has also contributed to several IHI white papers and has been named one of the Top 50 Patient Safety Experts in the U.S. by Becker's Hospital Review three times. He is also the founder of Achieving Health Equity LLC.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wyatt has been committed to advancing health equity. He became the first African American Chief Resident at the St. Louis University School of Medicine and has worked to remove barriers that affect patient safety. He has also spoken and written widely about how racism and inequality can directly impact the quality and safety of healthcare.
