Massachusetts-Based Liberate Bio Appoints Steven H. Bernstein as Chief Medical Officer

He will lead the companys clinical development as it advances genetic medicines that program immune cells directly inside the body.

Dr. Steven Bernstein joins Liberate Bio as the company prepares to move its lead in vivo CAR-M programs into clinical trials using its lipid nanoparticle platform.

He will lead the company's clinical development strategy, oversee upcoming clinical studies, and help turn early trial results into future treatment plans. He will also guide biomarker selection, clinical endpoints, and the use of patient data to support the development of new therapies.

Dr. Steven Bernstein is a physician, scientist, and biotechnology executive with extensive experience in clinical development, cancer research, cell therapies, and regulatory strategy.

Most recently, he led clinical development, translational medicine, regulatory science, and clinical operations for Regeneron's Cell Medicine Unit. He also served as Chief Medical Officer at 2seventy bio, where he helped advance Abecma, the first FDA-approved BCMA-targeted CAR-T therapy for multiple myeloma.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Bernstein held leadership roles at Turnstone Biologics and Bristol Myers Squibb. He also worked as an academic physician, and researcher, focusing on lymphoma and cancer immunology.
