Shannon Wu Co-Founded OpenHome Announces Partnership With ElevenLabs

Jul 29, 2026 | By Devin Jacobs

OpenHome has launched a Japan Developer Program in partnership with ElevenLabs Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of voice AI company ElevenLabs.

SUMMARY

  • OpenHome has partnered with ElevenLabs Japan to launch the Japan Developer Program for AI voice application developers.
  • OpenHome provides an ambient AI operating system that helps developers build AI-powered voice agents for smart devices.
  • The partnership will give developers access to advanced voice AI technology and ElevenLabs credits to create natural Japanese voice experiences.

The program will support developers in Japan who are building voice applications and AI agents using OpenHome's ambient AI operating system.

OpenHome is an operating system for AI-powered hardware that lets developers create AI agents with custom voices, personalities, and behaviours. These AI agents can be deployed to hardware with one click and run directly on devices, allowing fast responses even on small products like toys.

ElevenLabs' text-to-speech and speech-to-text technology powers the new Japan Developer Program. Because Japanese speech depends on natural tone, pitch, and context, OpenHome chose ElevenLabs as its first voice AI partner in Japan to deliver more natural and accurate voice experiences.

OpenHome lets developers create custom AI experiences for smart devices. The Japan Developer Program is selective and approved developers will receive ElevenLabs credits to build their OpenHome projects.

Developers can apply through the OpenHome developer portal. Each application will be reviewed individually, and selected participants will receive a limited amount of ElevenLabs credits, depending on approval, and availability.

"Japan has a long history of technology innovation in consumer hardware, and we're committed to bringing the next generation of AI and voice interfaces to the Japanese ecosystem," said Shannon Wu, CEO of OpenHome. "We think some of the most interesting ambient AI products will come from Japan."

"Japan's developers have a strong track record of turning advanced technologies into useful products," said Hajime "Jim" Tamura, General Manager, Japan and Korea at ElevenLabs. "We're pleased to support OpenHomes program and help builders explore natural Japanese voice experiences in real world devices."
