Contract Professionals, Inc. Founder Steve York Announces Retirement After 44 Years

Steve York, a U.S. Air Force veteran, founded Contract Professionals, Inc. on March 2, 1982, with the goal of helping veterans find jobs. What started as one veteran’s mission grew into a company that has helped connect employers and job seekers across industries including defense, mobility, engineering, skilled trades, IT, finance, and professional services for more than 40 years.

For Steve York, Contract Professionals, Inc. was more than a staffing business—it was about people, relationships, service, and doing work carefully and correctly. A key part of the company culture was his guiding phrase: “Do it right the first time.”

This approach helped build CPIs strong reputation for integrity, reliability, and specialized recruiting in high-demand technical fields. It also created a loyal workplace culture, with many employees staying for decades, reflecting the trust, and consistency York brought to the organization.

Steve Yorks retirement marks an important milestone in the history of Contract Professionals Inc. The company will continue focusing on its original mission of connecting skilled professionals including military veterans with employer's who need trusted talent.
