Remission Medical Closes Series A Funding Led by Blue Heron Capital

Remission Medical, Inc., a virtual rheumatology company based in Richmond, Virginia, has raised an undisclosed amount in a Series A funding round led by Blue Heron Capital.
The company plans to use the funds to expand its partner network, grow its clinical team, and scale its infrastructure.
Rheumatic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and psoriatic arthritis affect over 54 million Americans, but there is a growing shortage of specialists. As a result, patients often wait more than two months for their first appointment, leading to missed diagnoses and delayed treatment for conditions that can be managed well if caught early.
Remission Medical addresses this by partnering with health systems and placing trained providers directly into their existing setups, enabling them to launch rheumatology services in weeks rather than years. Its proprietary platform, RemissionOS helps manage this model at scale by supporting staffing and operations across a growing network.
RemissionOS (ROS) is designed to manage a distributed clinical workforce across multiple health systems simultaneously. It helps Remission Medical manage staffing, performance, and workflows by automating tasks such as referrals, scheduling, documentation, billing, and reporting, all aligned with each partner’s existing systems. This platform allows the company to quickly add new partners, maintain consistent quality, and provide the data needed to grow rheumatology programs.

Remission Medical works with major health systems across the U.S., including Sentara, OrthoVirginia, WellSpan, Ochsner, Campbell Clinic, Gundersen, MultiCare, and St. Francis.
The Series A funding follows strong growth, including triple-digit increases over several years and expansion into new regions with health system partners. The company will use the funds to grow partnerships, hire and train clinical staff, and improve its ROS platform to support more specialties beyond rheumatology.
Remission Medical views its AI-based platform and partnership model as expandable beyond rheumatology. The ROS system is built to handle staffing, credentialing, and billing across multiple health systems, making it suitable for other high demand specialties facing similar shortages. The company plans to share updates on moving into new specialties in the coming months.
“We built Remission Medical on a simple idea: health systems already have the patients, infrastructure, and payer relationships—they just lack enough specialty care capacity and the systems to manage it,” said Blake Wehman, Founder and CEO of Remission Medical. “RemissionOS makes our model scalable by helping us quickly launch with new partners, manage a distributed workforce, and track performance. We’ve proven this in rheumatology, and this investment will help us expand into other underserved specialties.”
“What makes Remission Medical stand out is its strong partnership model with health systems, combined with a purpose built technology platform that supports growth at scale,” said Tom Benedetti, Partner at Blue Heron Capital. “RemissionOS is central to how the company operates, helping it expand without losing quality or efficiency. We believe Remission Medical is building a new model for how health systems access specialty care, starting with rheumatology and expanding into other areas.”
