State Affairs, a Washington, DC-based technology company combining daily exclusive reporting, original data gathering and AI, has raised $70 million in a total funding round from Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, Tru Arrow Partners, Alumni Ventures, Marcus Brauchli, Alex Mather, Adam Hansmann, and Richard Sarnoff.
The company will use the funding to further develop and expand its intelligence platform for policy and regulatory markets.
As government policies play a bigger role in shaping businesses, industries, and investment decisions, State Affairs is building a real-time intelligence platform for organizations that create, influence, or respond to policy. Its customers include government agencies, elected officials, and some of the world's largest companies.

State Affairs publishes more than 2,000 original, nonpartisan news stories every month. Its data teams also collect and organize policy information from state legislatures and government agencies across the U.S.
The platform combines this reporting, public government data, and customer-specific information to deliver real-time insights, alerts, collaboration tools, and actionable intelligence.
"We need more nonpartisan journalism to build a better democracy and future," said Jamie Roberts Seltzer, co-founder of State Affairs. "Because nearly all state capitols are underreported on, the exclusive reporting and original data gathering that powers our platform not only provides more comprehensive information, it also mandates that we further invest into objective journalism to widen the moat of the intelligence you get on State Affairs versus anywhere else.
"Policy and regulatory markets are often more impactful to organizations than financial markets, yet everybody from voters to companies is often the last to know what's happening," said Evan Burns, co-founder and CEO of State Affairs. "State Affairs helps organizations proactively understand and engage with policy markets at scale across the U.S."
