Singularity, a Los Angeles, CA-based defense tech company, has raised $80 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures and Felicis at a $400m valuation.

The funding round included support from existing investors AE Ventures and NEA, along with Long Journey, Harpoon, Menlo Ventures, Y Combinator, Decisive Point, New Vista, Sunflower, and Soma.

The round also attracted investments from several well-known leaders in industry, the military, and government, including former U.S. Army Chief of Staff General (Ret.) James McConville, former U.S. Space Command Commander General Jim Dickinson, and former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Major General (Ret.) Volodymyr Havrylov.

The company is focused on solving a major defense challenge by developing affordable air defense systems that can be deployed at large scale for the U.S. and its allies.

Low-cost drones and other inexpensive weapons have become a major challenge because they are cheap to produce but expensive to stop. They have caused heavy losses in Ukraine, disrupted global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and continue to become more advanced.

To keep up with these evolving threats, Singularity is rapidly improving its technology through frequent testing. The company develops both its hardware and software in-house and conducts multiple flight tests every month to quickly refine its air defense systems.

Singularity's manufacturing team, made up largely of former Tesla and Toyota employees, is building an automotive-style production line to quickly increase manufacturing. By making key components in-house and using commercially available parts, the company is preparing to produce its systems at scale.

The team includes not only engineers but also veterans from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and other military backgrounds. Their real-world experience drives the companys mission to deliver reliable air defense systems as quickly as possible.

"The scale of avoidable casualties from low-cost munitions in recent years is gut-wrenching. The U.S. has had the technology to defeat these threats for decades, but as adversaries stockpile millions and put them to use, we've reached a true crisis for interceptor inventory and production volume," said Jack Oswald, Co-Founder and CEO of Singularity.
